PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Registration is open for the 2019 SOAR Summit, which is scheduled for September 5-6 at the Appalachian Wireless Arena (formerly the East Kentucky Expo Center) in Pikeville, Ky.

The sixth-annual Summit is hosted by Shaping Our Appalachian Region, Inc. (SOAR) and attracts more than 1,000 people for the two-day event.  It is a time to network, collaborate, and learn from one another, as well as SOAR’s network of more than 200 partners.

“This event is a time to celebrate what we have accomplished together as a region, but it is also a time to recognize that there’s still much work to do,” said Jared Arnett, executive director of SOAR. “The Summit provides attendees an opportunity to see firsthand the progress being made across the region.  It’s also a time to share ideas and get to know people, organizations, and businesses that are aligned in our belief that we are creating a future in Appalachia, together.”

SOAR Principal Officers Congressman Hal Rogers and Governor Matt Bevin will speak during the main session on Friday, September 6.  Other speakers include Arnett and Eli Capilouto, president of the University of Kentucky.  SOAR will release other speakers, including the Summit’s keynote speaker, in the coming weeks.

Last year, SOAR expanded the Summit to two days and hosted specific workshops on areas of focus (technology and healthcare) across Appalachia Kentucky.  This year’s pre-Summit session will feature roundtable discussions around the seven goals outlined in the Blueprint for the Future of Appalachia.  Attendees will have the opportunity to contribute to the conversation and collaborate with like-minded individuals, organizations, and businesses in roundtable sessions on: Broadband Expansion, 21st Century Workforce, Small Business in the Digital Economy, Healthy Communities, Industrial Recruitment, Local Foods, and Tourism.

Registration is $40 for both days, $25 for September 6 only, $15 for September 5 only.  There will be a reception on the evening of September 5.  Cost is $5 per person.  Registration includes breakfast and lunch on Friday, September 6.  Limited scholarships are available; please email to find out more information
